The 9 holes opening of the first 18 holes championship golf course in the South of Russia took place on the 26th of September, 2008, on Golf & Country Club Don which is located in Starocherkasskaya village not far from Rostov-on-Don city.
German architect Folker Pushel, a member of European Institute of Golf Archetects, chose an ideal place in our Region for the golf course construction — the Center of Don’s Cossacks, Starocherkasskaya village. The amazing natural landscape, ecological cleanness and historic value became the basis for Golf & Country Club Don project realization. «We created a high class golf course and kept natural resources and natural landscape. As a result today we have the championship golf course which can bear comparison with the golf courses all around the world», — said Mr. Pushel on the opening presentation.
The total space of the first 9 holes of the championship golf course is 40 ha. It is planned to run into operation the second part of the course in 2009.
«Currently the Rostov area is one of few Russian regions and an only one in the South of Russia where we have the golf club of the world level», — said deputy governor of the Rostov area Sergey Kuznetsov at the course opening ceremony.
At this presentation the management of the golf club was handed over with the Russian Golf Accreditation Certificate and the Certificate of incorporation into the golf club register of European Golf Association.
The Russian Golf Cup took place on the 27th and 28th of September under the opening of the first order of the 18 holes championship golf course at the Golf & Country Club Don. It was arranged by Russian Golf Association under the auspices of Federal Agency for Physical Education and Sport and Physical Fitness and Sports Ministry of Rostov Area.
27 top-rank Russian sportsmen were the first who saw the true value of Don’s golf-course unique coloring. All the golfers and the winners Galina Rotmistrova and Dmitry Zacharov among them valuated the highest quality of the course and the unique climatological conditions which complicate the game and thereby make it more interesting. Rostov Region was represented by Andrey Halin who got the special prize — Audi Cup — for the closest hot to the hole.
